Acoustics, Noise/Vibration Control, Sound Isolation
Kirkegaard is seeking a consultant with senior-level experience in noise and vibration control, substantial experience in sound isolation and architectural acoustics, and concept-level experience with AV systems design. The ideal candidate will have past experience and a strong desire to work in the performing arts; enthusiasm for working on a diversity of projects beyond the arts; the demonstrated capability to develop and maintain client relationships; and a commitment to being a collaborative, efficient and effective member both internally and externally.
This position will be located in our Chicago office.
Acoustics Design responsibilities include:
Consulting for noise/vibration control, sound isolation and room acoustics projects
Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with architects, engineers, theater consultants and other disciplines in the built environment
Representing the company at external meetings with clients and design team members
Analyzing data and working internally to help solve complex technical challenges and problems
Participating in industry events and conferences to contribute to the business and the technical field broadly
Providing technical guidance and mentoring to consultants, specialists and interns
Project Management responsibilities include:
Managing projects for efficient delivery of consulting services on time and within budget
Managing acoustics and AV systems design staff and subcontractors on multiple complex projects simultaneously
Working effectively with team members in other office locations for internal project coordination
Managing internal project milestones and tasks that move a project from an opportunity to its completion
Pursuing new projects, building client relationships and maintaining client confidence
Contributing technical information for business development efforts including proposals, qualifications submissions and project marketing materials
The ideal candidate will have
Seven to 10 years relevant experience in acoustics consulting in and beyond the arts
Substantial experience in the measurement and analysis of complex noise and vibration projects
Experience with all phases of projects from programming through commissioning
High-level thinking and visualization skills with an orientation for design and creative problem solving
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex issues and problems with clarity
A flexible, collaborative approach to work, both within the firm and with members of design teams
Substantial experience communicating with general contractors, sub-contractors (HVAC, Electrical, Drywall and Framing) and client project managers during construction administration process including field visits, submittal review and RFI responses.
Substantial experience in business development from identifying opportunities to participating in interviews
Proficiency (or ability to readily learn) applications such as REVIT, AutoCAD, Rhino and EASE, CATT, or Odeon; experience with Matlab, Grasshopper and/or Audition desired
Experience as a musician, public speaker, or actor
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural engineering, physics, a related engineering field or acoustics
Master’s degree in architecture, acoustics, physics or mechanical engineering desired.
